Pakistan to India

Hello there!
Does someone knows if the border between Muzaffarabad (Pakistan) to Srinagar (India) is open to foreigners or the only border we can cross is Lahore to Amritsar?
Does someone rode on the road from Srinagar to Leh? How is it?
Thanks for your answer or experience!
Virginie

Hello,

Wagah border is the only one open to foreigners.

Road Srinagar-Leh is mostly asphalt, but Zoji La pass can be a bit challenging if the weather is bad.
Landslides are pretty common in the area, so don't be surprised if the road closes for a few hours/days

Hello crisidsto,
Thanks for your quick answer!
Have you been on this road by motorbike?
Do you remember approximately how many kilometers you can ride each day on this road?
Thanks indead

Yes, I rode it 2up on a Royal Enfield 500 last summer.
I started in Leh, stopped in Drass for the night and next day I was in Srinagar.
My pictures are here

In my opinion, in good weather, departing early, you can ride all the Srinagar-Leh in 1 day, if you have no time and want to do it.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
