The Amazon-Guyanas Loop: Parameters
Home again after two months and two weeks on the road, having started from Canada on August 1. For you, trip planners, some data: Total road distance travelled from Ottawa, Can. to Panama-Bogota-Manaus-Belem-Macapa-Oiapoque-Cayenne-Paramaribo-Georgetown-Boa Vista-Bogota-Panama-Ottawa: 28,000km. By air with Girag (Panama-Bogota-Panama) $400 for bike, $200 for rider (Avianca) each time. Two boats on Amazon (Manaus-Belem, 5 days; Belem-Macapa, 2 days) 6 ferries. No problem in dry season. Therefore August departure. But it still rains sometimes, even in dry season, therefore expect mud in Guyana, and more mud in Guatemala and Mexico, thanks to Hurricane Stan. A great trip. South America with a difference. I would do it again, same route. Highly recommended.

Manus to Macapa boat trips with bike
Would appreciate your advice on the boat trip from Manus to Macapa; How long is the trip and cost for me and the bike. Planning for March 2013, starting from Georgrtown (Guyana) to Boa Vista then down to Manus. At manus put the bike on a boat for Macapa, then north to French Guiana, dutch Giuana and then back to Georgetown.
Regards.

Hey demoes: have a look at the date on Werners post. You might be better off dropping him an email instead. Let me know what he says, I'd like to do that trip on my down or on my way back next year depending on time, I do know that flying your bike and yourself from Panama is a lot more expensive now, like $1200

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
