Vehicle Permits for Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, and Europe
Hello Travelers,
Keen to understand apart from holding Visas and Carnet for the Vehicle -
what are the other necessary documents (permits, insurance etc.) if any for self-riding / self-driving in these Countries -
Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan (Transit only), Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy, France.
Any help will greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,

For Turkey,
1- No carnet needed..Just buy a turkish road insurance at the gate if your green card doesnt cover turkey.
2- E-visa or gate visa possible for most nationalities.you can check your visa procedure here.
Visa Information / Rep. of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs
3- The negative points are, crazy traffic in istanbul, and gas prices.
good luck and all the best.

Thanks Jmi.
Apparently for the Tajik (Pamirs) you need a 4x4 and we are in a 2WD.
Would you know when entering from the China to Kyrgyz side (Kashgar to Torugart side) any special Permit is required? This is for a group crossing.

Hi Andy
No special permit required for the Kyrgyz side.
Your tour guide should be organising the permit for up to the border (we had a new guide just got the last 50 miles after kashgar to the border)

Thanks Jmi. That is really good to know.
The car stands at 185mm as of now. Wonder if that would be good enough.

Thanks WickyChicky for your inputs.
Our guide support from the Chinese side would end at Kashgar.
So do we need to arrange for a guide (to cross into the kyrgyz side) before hand or is it something that can be handled at the Torugart Pass?
Also, is there a vehicle that accompanies together if there is a group convoy? Just curious.

KayJay - where do the bikers want to join from? If it's from Nepal for the China crossing, the permit applications for our dates are now closed. We have been informed there can be no more add-ons to our group.
