Transporting motorcycle by Thailand train

Hey all, my wife and I just completed riding the legendary 1864 curves in Northern Thailand. We saved more than 2600km of highway riding from Hat Yai to Chiang Mai by transporting our motorcycle using Thailand's railway system. I made these slides to help anyone who is keen on transporting their motorcycle in Thailand by train. Before that, visit Thailand State of Railway website and see if Thai train rides are your thing.

You can view the slides here:

Good Info
I have never put a big on the train but I have used the trains in Thailand. I enjoyed the overnight from BKK to CM, in the old Japanese Carriages, I did the 1st class and I was freezing in the middle of the night. A great experience

That ride looks amazing.
We are planning to be there April/May but only just started planning the trip.
Where did you bring the bikes into Thailand from?
Any tips appreciated as we start planning.

Why do you ship a bike to Thailand if not for riding? If you lovetoget around by train just rent local bikes for 5 Dollars per day when you get of the train...

To TS: Well - you still need mandatory guide, permits, approved itineraries and lots of red tape. I cant actually see the point of the train thing. Maybe a consideration if youre from Malaysia or Singapore for which the new thai rules and regualtion doesnt apply.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
