Colombia, San Augustin - Finca El Cielo

Finca El Cielo

Our hosts at the peaceful Finca El Cielo, Sandro and Luz, provided us excellent cuisine, two comfortable rooms, with a surrounding balcony, excellent vistas plus any and all assistance we required 24/7 for more than two weeks. Food was prepared and served according to our desires and we ate, on the very attractive balcony, in El Cielo's delightful open air restaurant, or in our rooms with picture windows swung open to incredible views. The rooms were immaculate, and cleaned every day. The price was well worth the comfortable facilities and the excellent service.

We arrived Finca El Cielo shortly after I fractured three toes while motorcycling the Trampolin de la Muerte south of San Augustin. We had to bush camp en route, due to my injuries and were exhausted when we finally arrived at the welcoming Finca El Cielo.

We are both retired. I am Spanish, Elisa Rosales, PhD and my husband is an international businessman and returned U S Peace Corps volunteer. We have motorcycled more than 55,000 K through 8 South American countries and more than 30,000 K through Europe and Asia.
Sandro and Luz, along with their extended families and friends assisted us in finding excellent medical care, arranged extensions for our Colombian temporary vehicle import permits, found safe and secure storage for our motorcycles, arranged for an ambulance to the airport in nearby Pitalito, and kept us safe and well cared for while waiting evacuation through this year's coffee growers roadblocks.

What we liked best during our two weeks at Finca El Cielo was that it was better than a 5 star experience, it was a Colombian family experience and we were treated like family!

If you do visit the comfortable Finca El Cielo, and we hope you do, please know, that Sandro and Luz are excellent hosts and will see to your every need. We are returning to Finca El Cielo later this year to continue our South American ride.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
