Colombia -- Medellin -- Biker Friendly Hotels

Dear HU,

In relation to my other Thread in this Forum. As I am most familiar with Medellin. I thought I would send a few other related topics. This one about Bike Friendly Hotels in Medellin.

While most hotels will accept you as a biker. Having to park your Bike down in a concrete block and having to go upstairs 4-5 floors to get to the lobby is not what you are looking for.

So here a few hotels that I know are great for bikers. Like some information I knew I had when I first came here.

61 prado hotel

This hotel is in the neighborhood of Prado Centro which is close to the center of Medellin. This is the old town where old colonial houses can be found and has the allure of an old spanish town.

The hotel is friendly with a great atmoshere. The rooms are colonial style for the most part. The Hotel has fiber internet (300MBIT+) so it is great for working. The hotel has a rooftop that will allow you to see all of Medellin.

Specifically for Motorbikers there is a garage that will allow you to Park your bike. There is no parking charge and there are lockers next to the bike where you can hang your suit if you don't want that to be in your room. This hotel is for people who like to mingle, with everyone having a private room.

Crowds here are of all ages including nomads, bikers, and an occassional tour. Feb 2023 pricing is around $35 USD for a room and $5-$12 USD for a meal. Beers are $0.75-$2.50 (local/import)

Selina

This hotel caters to a younger crowd. While it is known for partying and some complain that there can be some noise close to the rooms, this hotel is great for Nomads and Bikers. I have seen bikes being parked in the hotel lobby. Not sure if they were there temporary or if that is actually a parking spot for the hotel.

The hotel is in the Poblado Region in the area where the bars and discos are. Ideal if you are in your 20-ties, 30-ties or feel like you should relive that epoca. Great location if you want to party, but the hotel has a host of activities including massages, yoga, reiki and much more.

Hotel prices are around $90 USD per night if pre-booked. There is a great taco place at the hotel that cost $3-$10 USD for a meal. Beers are $1.50-$5.00 (local/import)

Hacienda Hotel Extremadura -- Envigado

This hotel is in Envigado, which is technically not Medellin, but is one of the best areas. Hotel is on the edge of town, meaning you will need to drive up. What makes this hotel great is absolute tranquility and the fact that you can park your bike alsmost in your room.

The bad part is that it is quite a bit away from restaurants (outside of the hotel), Shops and Nightlife. So you will need to use taxi's / Uber to get to most places.

I have stayed her myself and the hotel is great, it is recommended for people who value staying in a city, but don't want to actually be in the city. It can be a bit lonely this one, but great if you want to stay alone.

Current Prices: $75 USD for a night, Beers are $1.50=$5.00 USD

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
