Help needed in Lima, Peru
Hi everybody!
I've been on a trip of a life time from Florida - Peru this year. I love the trip, but unfortunately it didn't end well. My friend's bike broke down in Peru, so I decided to ship my bike back from Lima, Peru to Miami, USA. Unfortunately shipping didn't go smoothly. All of my personal belongings were pulled off my bike and they are still in Lima. The shipping company (Amber Worldwide Peru) is giving me nothing but trouble. They have all my camping gear, all my riding gear and everything else. I paid over $2000 to have my bike shipped to Miami (including luggage) but of course they say the customs problem wasn't their fault, so they want to charge hundreds of extra dollars to send me my stuff. I don't know if I'll ever get to see my things again. Any ideas how to deal with such a situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If flights to Lima would be cheaper I'd just hop on a plane and get my stuff in person. If there is anything you can think of, please let me know!! Thank you!!
BTW: the shipping company was Amber Worldwide Peru - don't ship with them - they are bad news!!

Trouble Magnet?
I read your posts on ADV Rider about your radiator problems on your BMW.
No idea if you got that solved or shipped you bike back in pieces?
I've read many reports stating that some shipping companies DO NOT allow your panniers and luggage to go with the bike ... or in the crate.
I think better research would have revealed these limitations.
But, IMO, you DO have a case. I'm assuming you had insurance for your shipment? Contact the USA agent for the insurance company and file a claim.
There is NO WAY they can legally hold your gear. If the insurance company contacts the shipper, my guess is they will convince them to forward your gear to you in the USA. If insurance refuses you will have to sue. It really helps to use a local Agent/Freight forwarder in these matters ... and always read the fine print.
Sounds like you're trip had a lot of bad luck. Sorry to hear it ... I think the Horizon's DVD would have been a really good pre-quel to your trip, maybe saved some heartache and wasted time. That, and posting and asking questions for 6 months before you depart and reading as many travel reports as you can.
Sorry for all the loose ends, hopefully you can get your gear back.

I'm in Lima
I just happen to have been broke down in Lima the past three weeks and it's looking like I'll be here another two weeks waiting for parts. If I can halo in anyway let me know. I'm probably going to end up storing my bike down here for another year and flying back home from Uruguay. What's the value of your belongings and will they fit on my bike? I could bring them back with me.

Wow!
Wow! That would be amazing but it's ALL of my stuff because they pulled it all off my bike ... so it's a fair amount. All my camping gear, riding gear, toiletries, clothes ... I flew back with a carry-on only. :-/ So I assume it'll be too much for you to carry on a bike. Unless you fly out of Lima ...
I've uploaded a pic of my belongings that are still in Lima ... let's see if we can see it.
I am going to pm you my email address.
Thank you!

I'm an American and I live in Peru (am in SF for Christmas) and can store your stuff until such a time as you can find a way (I might be coming back to LAX late Jan) to get it back. Just let me know and I'll give you the address.

Hi, I just had somebody contact me who's flying to LAX today, and he's trying to pick up my stuff today. It's a fair amount of stuff, since they pulled EVERYTHING out of my boxes (camping gear, riding gear, all clothes and all other belongings). So if he can get my stuff, he will bring as much as he can. If it doesn't work out today (not much time) then maybe I could use your offer? That would be awesome! My things have been in Lima for 2 months, so there's certainly no rush. I'd just like to get my stuff back at some time ...
I'll keep you posted! Thank you!!
