what is the best country to ship a bike to ?
hello all
i wonder if i want to ship my bike from Egypt to South America or central America ,what is the best country ?
i heard that Argentina and Brasil they charge lots of $$$ for declaring the bike ? any experience or details please

You`r best bet is Chile if you are using oceanfreight cost around 100 -150 US
and Cancun,Mexico if used airfreight cost is about 90 US at airport and 200 US deposit for temporary import which is returned to you at border up on living a country.

shipping into South America
Its hard to say which country is the best, but I would strongly recommend use aircargo for your bike.

In the South I would fly it into Santiago de Chile, and in the North I would fly it into Bogota. But I have never used this airports myself, this is just from what others told me.

Here you can read about how much I paid to get my bike out in Valparaiso/Chile January 2016 after sea freighting it from Germany.

Good on ya Mika, I am curious about this too. You and I spoke a bit about the g650x challenge I have...which I rode flawlessly for 9500kms from Los Angeles to New Mexico, up the entire continental divide with detours like Colorado Alpine Loop and passes, and carried on to Banff, Canada. Only had a few punctures! Then rode the bike back via British Columbia mountains, Washington, Oregon, California back to LA. I plan to return in early FEB to ride 2weeks in Baja and then ship the bike to Colombia? Not sure if I should ferry to Mexico mainland to Mexico City and fly/ship from there OR double back to LA and fly/ship from the US? Looks like Bogota will be the easiest and most affordable but heading south then for 3months seems tricky with weather?

I can't really change my timing and I know it starts getting cold in Ushuaia. I've got from 8Feb-end of May and north to south is going to get interesting!

Yes remember our conversation, it was when I had the friend here with the broken frame on his x-challenge. Patagonia in May or June is cold. I have never been down there at that time of the year, only in January (2003) and I had snowrain riding into Ushuaia. Dont know, what to tell you, just change your plan ... ride to Patagonia in March and than up to Colombia and to Baja in the end, just an idea. Enjoy mika

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
