Camp sites Edinburgh?

Hi Mods I am well aware this is probably the wrong section to ask but I could not find any other suitable areas so please move this to the correct place if need be.

I am looking for camp sites in or within a ten mile radius of Edinburgh. I have done all the usual searches on google and I have visited 3 such sites this morning. They all appear to have a no group policy and bikes are a definite no no (the ones I have checked at least).Others are caravan and motorhomes only and the Fringe site is asking for £15 per person per night, extortionate methinks!

Are there any hubbers out there with some local knowledge of the area who can recommend any inexpensive bike friendly camp sites? This is not desperate as I am staying with relatives for a few days but a in a few weeks I will be back here with a small group of friends. Thanks in advance.

GM.

Hi Tim, yes thanks for that, I did look at wild camping but apart from Princes park there is not too much land to camp on in that I have seen so far. Showers for the one night we will be here would be handy too. Once we get past Inverness en route to the NC 500, we will be wild camping on the odd night.

Once again thanks for the reply, the info will come in handy once we get past Edinburgh.

I stayed at a campsite close to Edinburgh about 10 years ago, I was on a bike and am fairly certain it was this one.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
