The Kiwi community here will know best.

My experience ? well, I don't know what this company are like nowadays, but back in 2007 they did me proud after a nasty "off" riding along a NZ gravel road.

No quibble claim settlement. I was very impressed.

Classic Cover Insurance

Good luck

Keith

PS - I was/am same as you, e.g. a Brit ('Pom' .. get used to it!) riding a NZ-registered bike bought by me to explore The land of the long white cloud.

As mentioned by another poster, TradeMe is a good place to start looking for a bike, unless you want to do a buy-back arrangement - there are a few dealers, especially in the South Island who can do that.

Look forward to your updates. NZ's a great place to ride (excepting around here today where we're getting torrential rain and/or hail!)...

The dealers don't seem very helpful not many have replied and those that have clearly don't read the emails properly lol.
I have found this Find Motorcycles for Sale NZ | Motorcycle Trader New Zealand looks ok.

Kiwi Biker

Martin - it might be worthwhile signing-up to the Kiwi Biker board and asking a few questions about sourcing the right bike for you on the site's forum.

WARNING: some, well quite a few actually, of the inmates on KB are definitely barking .. but the majority are helpful blokes.

Welcome to NZ's motor trade, where service is considered some kind of expletive.

Even those of us who live locally find dealing with the Trade an often frustrating experience. I don't think buying and insuring something suitable will pose a problem, however, and there's plenty of decent machinery around for you to choose from.

I have tried to set up an account on Trademe. Even though i had a valid NZ address and phone number they would not let me create an account as I was logging in from the UK.

The company does that to keep the spammers/scammers at bay. At least you can get an idea as to what's available.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
