Scooters on the Transfagarasan Pass - Romania

We completed a tour last year from Italy to Istanbul via Romania both with kids on the back and using classic scooters 'Frankensteined' with enduro bike engines. HU was a useful resource for our trip planning.

I've made five videos of the trip to promote a book about it, but no spamming, just a link to the video. Enjoy!

Nice videos. Me like.
You are out on a fantastic ride. I would like to drive the same way. How did you spend the nights, hotel or camping?

We carried camping gear on my wife's Maico for the whole trip and only used it on the ferry from Greece to Italy!

Most of Eastern Europe seems to have free wifi in the petrol stations so we used that to book up hotels as we went. It's so much quicker if you are moving on nearly every day and particularly if you are trying to get kids ready...

Here we go, the third episode for your delectation:

A dawn ride around Istanbul in into Asia by Lambretta.

This is a revised version with a new soundtrack due to problems with the audio on the last version:

Excellent videos, good tunes too !
Any piccies of Maico's modifications ? I'd love to have a classic scooter with a CB250 twin or even a slightly bigger engine fitted in . Gues the chain is shorter due to shorter swingarm?
Many thanks,
-zie egret.

Did you mean to put the Funmeter so low

There are a few build photos on the Facebook site here:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Frank...51978358316742

I had to make the swingarm to suit using a donor one from a CB500. Isn't CB engine air-cooled? If you want to hide it under bodywork then probably needs a fan or watercooling.

My mistake Stckyfeatures , of course I meant
Thank you for pointing out! Yes, cb250 nighthawk is what I had in mind, indeed is a air cooled engine and a water cooled engine under all the panels makes sense! Keep up the good work and please post more videos
Cheers,
-zie egret.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
