I've ridden with 8-10 GS riding buddies the last decades. I see the truth and the irony in that video ... Funny Stuff! ... but GS guys I know and ride with do lay down a fair amount of miles.
Point is, not all are posers ... some are even pretty good riders!
But our GS guys DO tend to have more breakdowns, more shop visits and spend MORE money than owners of other brands. (because THEY CAN!)
Our GS guys have other bikes in the stable. Only one or two have skills or desire (or lack of brains) to do serious off road on their GS's ... and we DO stop at Starbuck's or Peet's for Coffee after a 200 mile morning for a warm up!
Some have dirt bikes for true off road. A few own DR650 Suzuki's!
But must say most DO RIDE: Often and FAR.
Most times NO ONE breaks down ... but over the years BMW and KTM are the bikes that have broken down repeatedly.
GS issues (Off top of my head): ECU failure, Trans failure, Drive shaft failure, and 3 or 4 crashes ... two riders left in Ambulance, another, bike was unrideable.
KTM: Most water pump or fuel pump related. Twice a water pump failure led to ruination of KTM 990 and a 950 Super Enduro motors, also two 640's blew up, a Duke broke chain, and brake MC failed on a 640.
