Comprehensive Insurance for Central America
Anybody know of a company that will sell comprehensive bike insurance for Central American countries? Specifically Guatemala and El Salvador. I’ve found providers for liability, but none that will cover theft, accident, etc. Whether or not I can find this will effect which bike I take.
Thanks

No chance, no one will cover it - which is why many travellers take a cheap bike.
Correction - Lloyds will last I heard, but I don't think you'll like the price.
Do all the usual things to secure it, and don't take an irreplaceable bike.

Yeah, I figured that was the case, but thought it worth asking. Thanks for the reply.

Andy is correct.
However, in Mexico (Still Central America), you can purchase insurance through a website called Baja Bound. We overlanded in a van and purchased through them. We lost two tyres and they towed us and replaced the tyres, minus the deductible.
In Guatemala, there is one place in Flores where we also purchased it. It was supposed to cover 4 countries travelling South. We didn't use it so don't know its effectiveness. Look on iOverlander to find it. In each of the countries S of Guatemala, you will still have to purchase the SOAT (3rd party insurance) at each border.

Hmmm…
Mexico is actually North America, though that’s probably a common misconception. I am aware of the full coverage available there. Was just hoping I could find some for south of there. Were you trying to say that the place in Flores was able to sell you comprehensive coverage for Guatemala, or just liability? In any case, thanks for the input and info.

Yes...Mexico to Panama is North America, but everything from Mexico to Panama is commonly referred to as Central America.
The place in Flores was able to sell comprehensive coverage. But, it's been 5 years since I've done it, so check iOverlander for the icon for insurance to see if it's still available.

Virtually all authorities define Central America as consisting of the 7 countries south of Mexico. There are exceptions, of course, including those who include 25 or so Caribbean countries, but that’s marginal. This definition is framed in political and geographical terms.
I don’t make the rules; I’m merely reporting.
Confirmation of the existence of comprehensive insurance for Central American countries would be welcome news for some riders. This question has come up before.

That’s my understanding as well:
North America:
Canada
United States of America
Mexico
Central America:
Guatemala
Honduras
Belize
El Salvador
Nicaragua
Costa Rica
Panama
South America:
Pretty self-explanatory, but including none of the above.

I just downloaded iOverlander. The insurance agent it shows in Flores is Todo Riesgo”. Is that the one you meant? I talked to them a while back and they said no comprehensive; only liability.

If it's the only one you can find in Flores on iOverlander, then yes, that's the one. Been over 5 years since we used them, and I know others that followed after Covid indicated that the coverage was limited, but I didn't know what the limitations were.
I guess you found out.....
