A GPS tracker tracker allows thieves to locate your tracker on your vehicle and remove it. All available from the net.

So what do people use to secure their bike?
I have an old BMW airhead that I realise as time goes on is getting more valuable (nice to have made a vehicle purchase that increases in value for once) and hence more liable to be stolen. There is no alarm on the bike and I have a U-bolt type lock that I use. To date I have relied on the fact that it didn't run as stopping people riding off on it but as it is now running I need to up the security.
I would expect to take a cover for the bike on a long journey just to keep prying eyes off it.

I'm not a fan of the idea that you gotta have GPS so you can track it when it's stolen. I'm more of a "make sure it doesn't get stolen" kind of a guy, so I'll use the GPS money to secure a great and foolproof bike lock.

In a world with portable battery powered grinders, not many (any?) locks will stop a determined brazen thief

Aw, heck, the trick to never having your motorcycle stolen is simple: Always park beside a Harley-Davidson. The thieves will steal the Harley first and leave your bike alone.

I have the rewire tracker. The best use is knowing where you've been, how fast etc. As a security device it's great when you are close by, hotel etc. and can react.
Security to me is in layers, lock, alarmed garage at home, cover when away etc. If you have more or better layers than the next bloke they take his. Don'f forget obvious stuff like not having the dealers logo on the key and number plate. For chipped keys, get an unchipped one made. Use this for the ignition lock while keeping the chipped one in your pocket.
I will not have an electronic alarm. No one takes any notice and the only person it will ever stop riding away is the owner when it goes wrong.
Ultimately nothing will stop a determined thief.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
