Crossing DRC
Hi
I'm planing the Afrika west route for next year, starting in October.
The route would include a crossing through DRC towards Rwanda. Could be from Congo or further south, Angola what ever works better.
I'm looking for people who have actually DONE it in recent times and can share their experiences and advice.
Greetings,
David

Yep, I'd like to be in that loop too. Similar plans early 2020.

Hi David
I was looking into the same a few months ago. No experience from my side, but some good input in this thread:
https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hu...s-in-drc-96905
In short, Kinshasa - Lumbumbashi is just about still doable. All other cross-country routes are basically impossible with 4 wheels (just for practical reasons). I know at least one motorcyclist who crossed northern DRC to Rwanda - but that takes some planning, connections and balls.
Hope you find something useful.

Hey Kissing frog
DRC is possible and getting a bit better nowdays (2019).
I did the Lubambashi Kinshasa road back in 2006- that was a very tuff ride, but possible. Took me a month to ride 2300 Km (in first gear mostly).
I sugest familiar yourself with a bit of DRC backround, and read some of these books:
Crossing the Congo.
In the footsteps of Mister Cortz
Poisenwood bible
Blood river
They give you an idea of what you are going into- DRC is a "Fail State" whice means its a bunch of people living inside a border and no infructracture actually exist or work- its a bit of a shock for a westener to see how people live in appuling conditions, and been exploited but cleptomaniacts from their own country.
Just a tought
Anyway, give it about 2 months from the Lubumbashi road, or for a Kinshash Kisangani, Uganda trip. Lots of Cash, no ATMs outside Kinshasha...
Its hard, but worth it.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
