Driving in a pink car in Russia

Dear all,

This might be a totally ridiculous question, but I was wondering if we would attract additional unwanted attention from traffic police or others if driving a pink car.
The reason I am asking is that I found a low mileage Suzuki Vitara, which I plan to drive through Turkey, the caucasus, some of the -stans through to Vladivostok, but it is pink - which I think is totally fabulous .

We're a male/female couple, but given Russia's firm stance against homosexuality, would this increase our chances of getting stopped/harassed by police or others - or am I being totally paranoid?

I have a host of other questions about this trip, but will hapilly use the search function first for those - just thought this question has not been asked before

Many thanks,
Sandor

If I remember correctly the Russian manuf Avtovaz, who have a huge market share in family vehicles make a Lada model in pink, and I recently watched a programme on travelling through Russia, where a Ford C max appeared in marshmallow pink. I think you'll have more problems getting a visa than driving a pink car.

I don't know about the Russian Police but the Style Police might want a word or two.

I saw this in Samarkand, in Uzbekistan...

I haven't been to Russia, but I met gays in some quite hardline countries, e.g Iran and Pakistan.. What you hear on the news is magnified, and out there in the real world, diversity is the spice of life...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
