Accident Insurance in Chile
Does anyone have any recent information regarding accident insurance availability in Chile. I will be shipping my own bike into Chile (Australian registration) and intend travelling to most countries in Sth America after arriving in Chile initially.
Are you now able to purchase insurance prior to leaving one country and entering another or does this option vary from country to country.? From earlier reports some time ago, I gather that some countries required evidence of insurance before entry would be allowed.
Is it possible to buy it at the new border before actually arriving at the check-in office where the passport is checked and documents presented? Thanks

Hello and good afternoon,
to drive your motorcycle within chilean territory it is mandatory to have third liability insurance.
You could easily buy a so called SOAPEX for Chile online. For example at HDI seguros.
https://www.hdi.cl/hdi-seguros-home/...e-auto/soapex/
This insurance covers damages towards the health of a third person. Damages to another vehicle are not included.
Since you said you would like to travel to several different countries in South America it would be convenient to buy a Mercosur insurance, valid in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. As far as I know, in case of foreign plates and without residence, it is not possible to buy this product online. If you would like, I could help you with that.
Ride safe!
Martin

It is as you write. Different for different counties and even different border crossing sites.
Some examples
Peru 1: I had to buy at the border crossing. To get TIP. There was a small office selling it in the area between Ecuador and Peru
Peru 2: "Buy in next city. To avoid problems with the police"
Argentina: Strictly needed to have before entering Argentina. You can't enter without. I bought it in a small store i Chile, on the way towards the border.
Chile: "Buy in next city"
.....
