Europe to Mongolia - July/August

I'm not committed to the mode of transport yet. If I find someone to buddy up with I will do it on my motorbike. Else, I will do it my van.

Ergo. If you're not a biker, but still really awesome, then there's a space in the van.

I will be taking the route of least resistance, whatever that may be. Right now it seems to be Georgia/Russia.

Georgia-Russia is pretty much the only viable route with the Baltics closing borders at a whim. You can spend less time in Russia (if you want) by dipping down into north Kazakhstan, but of course that means more border crossings and more entries required on your Russian visa.

We don't close borders at a whim, we restrict access by Russian citizens because of the war they started.

The Narva border crossing was closed at a whim by Russia (it's a single bridge over a river), and only to vehicle traffic - it's still open to pedestrians. The border crossings at Koidula and Luhamaa are not only open, there is regular coach traffic through them - although the volume of traffic has decreased sufficiently that Koidula no longer operates 24/7, it's daylight hours only.

That said, no, I wouldn't encourage you to go spend your money in Russia right now.

My partner and I will be doing the same thing at the same time, two up on a bike. Could always ride together for a bit!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
