Norway summer 2021
If possible, I want to go to Norway coming summer
I'll be starting from Amsterdam and taking my dear Transalp with me, which has served so well all the way to Mongolia and back two years ago!
I'll be traveling on a budget (for Norwegian standards) and bring a tent to camp large parts of the journey. I want to ride mostly tarmac, but I'm not shy of some dirt now and then either. Preferably, I would leave in June, but this also depends on how the situation around Covid develops.
If you are interested to join a part of this journey, send me a pm and let's have a (Zoom) to see if we match!

Interesting. Transalp 600 '98 here
I'm in Estonia and I was also thinking about visiting Norway this year - either far north or any other part, but I was awaiting how the situation will develop.
I'm also into using a tent & going on a budget (no need for anything fancy in this country ) and also rather tarmac with just bits of offs.
However June doesn't work for me. It has to be either July or August. And the earliest I could really start thinking about it would be early May. If Norway won't be an option, then I'd be also thinking about Sweden.
I can let you know in May how it will look like for me, cheers.

Velkommen
Your weather forecast on "yr.no" english version, decides which way and when!
Keep your speed down, both for domestic and wild animals, as well as the police. The fines are eye-watering, and they cut foreigners no slack at all. Met a loudmouth pissed off German in Varberg, Sweden years ago, when we had Post Office cheques, caught speeding twice in one hour! Stern reaction. They took him to the bank, calculated how much petrol he needed to get home, took the rest, and expelled him. I bought him some food, I don't think he was scamming me!
Have a set of woolen underwear for altitude/cold weather. Even in summer.
Safe travels.

@Zieeelak: cool you have very similar plans! I think I could do begin/mid July as well and I might even be vaccinated by that time!
Anyway, still quiet some uncertainty, but let me know how it looks like for you coming month and we'll be in touch!
@Peter: thanks a lot for this useful advise, will take it easy on the roads there!

I thought I'd give a short (and therefore inaccurate) situation report on travel to Norway.
Essentially, as a foreigner not living in Norway you are not allowed to travel to Norway yet, unless you live in what Norway defines as a "yellow" area. At the moment, that's just Iceland and most of Finland.
Currently, only Norwegian "vaccine passports" are accepted to lessen quarantine requirements. Once there is a EU-wide vaccine passport, it can be expected that rules are changed, and that the borders are opened. I would not rule out travel in Norway becoming possible in a few weeks.
If people want, I can post updates when things change. There might be an update on which countries are "yellow" later this week.

Yep - your totally correct. Norwegian authorities still have a general ban of almost all inbound travel to Norway except those coming from yellow areas and a very few other exceptions.
However updates are given every second week I belive so things can change.

Thanks a lot for the heads-up guys, really appreciated!
I'm hoping the restrictions will be lowered by the end of July/start of August and if not Sweden would be the alternative for me! I'm lucky to be able to adjust my travel plans last-minute so we'll see how it goes

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
