Richard
Hi, thinking of driving 4x4 Sprinter van from U.K. to Mongolia this July/ August, no route or dates set yet, I have a contact in China and have done something similar before,, looking for fellow travelers, motorcycles or 4x4, open to suggestions.

Hi Richard, we want to be in Mongolia in those months, and drive there in June. And you?
But we are unsure of any exact details or routes, so cannot confirm anything.
Contacts in China, you mean you want to continue into China after Mongolia? We will head east after Mongolia, continuing to Vladivostok.

U.K. to Mongolia
Hi lovetheworld I cannot leave until about the 7th July, my thoughts to drive Europe Ukraine Russia Kazakhstan China Mongolia and then return across Russia, I’ve used a guide in China before on a previous trip from UK to Malaysia, rather not go to China as its expensive but the other way seems to be 3 entries to Russia and I can only get a visa for 2 entries, hope you get this as I’m new to this and don’t understand how it al works, if this is something that interests you I rather email you personally Richard

Well yes, the Russian visa is annoying. I noticed you can get 3 months double entry, anything longer (and thus multiple entry) and you need to have visited Russia in 12 months before. I'm looking into applying somewhere else to circumvent this.
The other option is to apply for another visa on the road. At least you can always get a Transit visa, but probably you want a tourist visa again, and that is not always possible for every nationality.
My current view of this (what I found out) is what I posted in this thread:

But of course, this is no guarantee.
You will not reach Mongolia earlier than August I think?

Mongolia
Hi love the world a name would be better, I’ve been in contact with a guide in China I have used before, she could possibly take us from Kazakhstan to Mongolia through the top north western part of China allowing us to use just 2 entries to Russia, Iva asked for the last week of July entering Mongolia the first few days of August, would that work for you?

Hi Richard,
I might be going to Central Asia this year (not sure yet) and looking for someone to travel with. I can also leave 7 or 8th July. Plan is to visit Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan (Pamir highway) and Kyrgyzstan. But I only have +/- 4 weeks. How are you planning on coming back with your van? I could ship my bike from Bishkek on August 6th. Where are you located?
