ADAC now cannot issue UK vehicles carnet?

Got an email today from Karina Stephanie?

'I am afraid we can not issue your Carnet. We discussed this matter with our insurance. They informed us, that the RAC has to issue your Carnet, because your vehicle is registered in UK.

Sorry for the bad news.

Best regards
Karina Stephani '

Throws a spanner in the works really for me. As always Paul at the RAC was massively helpful in explaining the changes to him, he is patient and able to advise 100% of the way. He explained that the insurers reviewed ADAC's proceudre and the carnets should have only been issued to German registered vehicles.

THE ADAC CARNET SALE IS OVER!

Grrr

Hi Joe

Hopefully that only applies to those in the UK.

As there's no carnet provider in Ireland - and many other countries - there may be a possibility of getting ADAC to do it, but if ADAC underwriters dig the heels in about the german registration thing - then we're buggered.

Just wanted to bump this thread and see if any UK registered cars have been getting ADAC carnets recently?

I am a German national, but with a British car. I had a series of carnets from the ADAC from 2007 until 2010. My last contact with the ADAC was in May 2012 and they advised me that I would need a letter of no objection from the RAC.

I seem to remember in the past that there was a note on the ADAC website to day that they would only issue carnets to German registered vehicles, but I can't see this presently.

Just to compare prices....

Vehicle value £2000 at a guess, country Iran.

RAC - deposit 500% = £10,000
10% for insurance premium, 50% of this is kept = £500!
6% IPT = £60
£350 RAC deposit
£190 for carnet

So total out of pocket £750

ADAC - deposit EUR 5000
Carnet EUR 195 plus EUR 84 membership fee

So total out of pocket EUR 279 plus transfer fees for EUR 5000 to Germany, but you automatically get a 25 page carnet and European breakdown cover!

Did someone say Rip-Off Britain?

OK, so I just got a response from Mischa at the ADAC. They no longer issue carnets for British vehicles at all, not even with a no-objection letter from the RAC.

So, I guess it is register my car in another country, or RAC... whichever is the lesser of the two evils...

It's cheap and easy to register a UK vehicle in Ireland. So that might be a good route.

When looked into it for my motorcycle it was going to cost just £100.

How easy it is to then re-register it in the UK I don't know.
