Border insurance Gibraltar
We will be on Canadian registered bikes in Spain and Morocco this spring.
We also will spend a few days in Gibraltar and have no idea how the heck to deal with border insurance there, or if it is even possible. Perhaps someone would be so kind as to enlighten me regarding insurance for riding in Gibraltar.
Basically is it possible or will we have to find secure parking in La Linea and schlep it into town.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum,
Are you sure whatever European insurance you have does not already cover Gibraltar? The reciprocal UK/EU insurance coverage is still in place post Brexit which covered Gibraltar and from what I can find still does.

Right. Gibraltar is part of Britain (by whatever name). Same principal has EU green card insurance covering French Guiana—probably Tahiti, too, and St. Pierre et Miquelon.
At least, when I got off the boat in Gibraltar (from Morocco), no one asked about insurance. I did manage to ride to the border without hitting anyone, which was not difficult considering it was only a mile or two.

Thank you for your input. So far I think there is a distinction made between UK insurance, which as you say, is still reciprocal, and Border insurance ( used to be called green card) which is quite specific and on which UK is blanked out. When I get direction on this I will post it.

What we need to do to help this guy (Mike D2) out is have someone check a "green card" insurance slip that has been issued in the past 2 years and see if there is a separate box on the slip for Gibraltar.
I have looked through my collection of slips, and none of them show a separate entry for Gibraltar, but all of them date from before Brexit.
Mike D2: Easiest thing for you to do is to write one of the providers of "green card" insurance and ask them to check. There are numerous providers, see the very long post in the "Trip Paperwork" section of HUBB about European insurance for non-European bikes.
Lastly, be aware that green card insurance does not cover Andorra, on the border between Spain & France.

Thank you all for your input.
I have 4 green cards from the last 2 years. There is no item for Gibraltar and UK is crossed out on all of them. We have been trying to find a way forward but I think that entry to Gibraltar will not be possible. That being said I have emailed customs in Gibraltar and will also email border and coastguard. if I get an answer, I will post it up. Most likely I will just say screw it, stay in La Linea and walk across.

Right. Gibraltar is part of the UK, therefore you need UK insurance. Seems reasonable to assume the same is true in other British colonies/possessions: Bermuda? Virgin Islands? Falklands/Malvinas?
Sorry I wasn’t able to offer a clear picture of how you might go about *getting* such insurance, here in the post-Brexit era.
The remaining question is whether the authorities check or care….and whether you do if they don’t.

Hi Mark:
It might be reasonable to assume that UK insurance is valid in Gibraltar (I don't know if that is the case or not), but I don't think it is reasonable to assume UK insurance is valid in the other overseas territories you mentioned. I doubt very much if that is a risk that UK insurers want to carry on all UK policies.
For example, would you think USA insurance issued to a person with a continental USA address would be valid in American Samoa, Guam, US Virgin Islands, or Puerto Rico? It might be, but that's not an assumption I would want to make.

Plenty of Spanish vehicles travel into Gibraltar every day. My Spanish insurance on my Panda 4x4 and my KTM 690 covers me for both Morocco and Spain.
If you have valid insurance for Spain I believe it will cover Gibraltar, have a read of this link.
