Cool Flying from UK to NYC

Hi
Can anyone help us out as it's literally a mine field and we don't want any extra hidden charges or info when we get there.
I am planning a 2 month road trip around the US, Canada and hopefully skim Mexico. My wife will be joining me for 3 weeks at the start and son 3 weeks after her.
I want to fly my bike into NYC and then it doesn't matter if it gets flown back or shipped at the end of my trip.

So my question is which is the best service for flying the bike out to the US and what do I need to account for when I collect the bike?

I am considering going out a few days beforehand to make sure the bike is there and get her ready before my wife fly's to meet me as she is on a limited time frame due to work commitments.

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave and welcome,
The usual advice for taking your bike to North America is fly it to somewhere in Canada not the US as the paperwork is a whole lot easier and there are usually more flying options such as the Air Canada scheme if they are running it this year. Once you are on the road in Canada which when I flew mine was around two hours after my flight touched down you can just ride across the border into the US with the minimum of fuss, keep an eye on this thread for the latest information on who is offering this service and where they fly to.

Hi Mark

Thanks for the info. Slight change of plan then and may be better flying into Toronto as closer to our first nights stay.

Hi
I can, highly, recommend Motorcycle Express. We used them to fly our bikes from Paris to Montreal using Transat Airlines - we actually flew on the same plane as the bikes. After a lot of research, it was by far the cheapest option and proved to be easy and efficient.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
