Smile HU-France - Moto Assistance SVP>

Bonjour HU-FR,

I live in the States near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. My hope was to join HU FR for the September Travellers Meeting in Loupiac but that is not going to be possible .
I also have a problem that I hope someone attending or otherwise may be able to help.
I have a Tiger 800 that I normally keep near Tours FR. However, last fall I left it in storage in Munich DE. The plan was to rejoin the moto in April and ride to Hungry, Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany before leaving it at its home in La Ville Aux Dames FR. Then this fall, meet up with HU FR. However, the moto still remains in Munich and now the owners of the storage want me to remove it this fall.

I need a way to get the moto back to FR - a transport or someone who would like a moto excursion. Travel from the States to the EU just isn't practical at this point. Any suggestion is welcome. Feel free to share this and drop me a message. And a big thank-you for your help!

Mike

Hi Mike,

Just read your post, and have come up with a potential issue. Where is the registration document? Any potential rider will need to get insurance to cover the trip, and can't be done without the reg document. Also the riders name would need to be on the document. Riding under your own insurance as a named rider possible, but complicated to arrange. Getting it picked up by a regular m/cycle transport company could probably be your cheapest option to get it safely back to Tours. I see from the address at Ville aux Dames that you must have some connection with Laurent at Ride in Tours. I am sure he might be able to help or arrange something. Good luck.

John Whyman.

Hi John,

Thanks for your ideas and message. Yes the bike is a long term 'lease' with Laurent and as such, insurance and registration is through his business. I don't think getting a new name associated with the bike will be a problem, just something that will need to be done. Unfortuanately, my efforts to locate and 'pin down' a transport company has not been successful. Most either don't reply to the inquiry or are not interested or able to arrange. It seems this business segment is suffering from the covid.

You haven't said anything about the owner, Laurent, who seems to own a motorcycle touring business and might therefore be expected to have ideas about what to do even if he were not the actual owner. Have you asked him?

I'll suggest that if you want to pursue this further on The HUBB, you start your own thread in the Trip Transport forum, https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/trip-transport/. Not only will that limit thread drift, but you're more likely to attract useful responses.

Good luck!

Mark

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
