share container vladivostok to Australia end 2016

Hi,

We are shipping 2 bikes from Vladivostok to Australia at the end of this year. It appears an entire container is a similar price to LCL, so if you're thinking of shipping things at this time of year, let me know, and perhaps we can get a better price.

I have no info on Vladivostok, sorry.

But may I ask, how much have you been quoted? Why two MC´s sent as one LCL consignment should cost the same as an entire container, is what I´m wondering here.
I believe you´d also have options to send by air from Seoul, for example.

We got a quote of about 4000 AUD for a container and 3700 AUD for LCL.

We are looking into Mongolia instead. We considered Seoul, but it seems that Mongolia will be a similar price and we with our visa date, we'll be a bit more stressed than we like to make an exit via Vladivostok.

3700 (about 2500 EUR) for LCL.. that still sounds a bit steep IMO.

I know it is not fully comparable at all, but in April 2008, I sent my 1 motorcycle Suzuki DL650 packed in a factory crate by sea from Sydney to Helsinki Finland, and this entire operation ended up costing me just a bit less than 700 euros. Just about 500 EUR at the Oz end, and the rest were harbour costs in Helsinki. 1250 euros per bike should probably get you (or nearly get you) airfreight Seoul-Sydney, although I have never sent from there myself. And getting from Russia to S.Korea would naturally cost something as well. In general, I prefer airfreight even though each shipment will be an individual case. But for one thing, the delays by air are a lot shorter – if seafreight gets delayed, it is easily several weeks extra.

It's not steep: It's completely outrageous, in particular the idea that LCL is very nearly the same as FCL.

Vladivostok - Korea = 500USD per bike (ferry) plus 100USD per person.

Korea - Australia = ~1500USD per bike. These are prices I get from the names I found on HorizonsUnlimited (people's freight experiences, well rated people, let's all use them etc, both sea-freight).

Right now I am negotiating air freight Mongolia-Melbourne for two bikes with DHL, and it seems like it will be about 1500 USD per bike, which is more reasonable, I guess.

Still.... $$$

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
