Hello Eliza,
As you I'm looking for a shipment from Argentina to South Africa (not for this year but for 2014). I'am in contact with a guy from a company.
For now I have a quote for a sea freight (about 24 days), but I'm still waiting for more information, and if they offer an air freight.
I'll keep you in touch....
Damien

Be aware, Dakar Motos doesn't appreciate it when they find out that you have shopped around. Or at least, they mentioned that to us when we used their services and were not amused by it. :-S. As you mention, not everybody is positive...
For flight, you might try to ship from other countries, Argentina seems not very easy.
For container, contact 'Smelly Biker', you'll find him here or on adv-rider. I never used his services, but asked for a few quotes and he seemed to be a very nice and reasonable guy.

Hello Eliza,
Here my email : damien@motard-du-monde.net
If you want more details about the quotation send me an email.
So I asked for an BMW 1200 GS Adventure. I made a roughly measurement Length : 2.15 m - Width : 1 m - Height : 1.08 m - Weight : 335 - 340 kg
Maybe I could reduce the size (I never did that before)
Here are the approximate values :
- By air
South African Airways. 3 weekly flights to Johannesburg.
Airway Usd 2768.00
- By sea
Sea Usd 1710.00. Transi time 24 days aprox.
Pls also note that the cost of package is Usd 800.00 is included in both cases (by air & sea)
Tell me more about your option to cross the Darien Gap by boat.
Take care....
Damien

Hi Damien,
Thanks for your info... !!! Gives me an idea of a price.. I am riding a BMW G650 GS.
Just made the passage from Panama City ( actually 2 hrs away in Carti which is off the San Blas Islands) to Cartagena , Colombia yesterday. There were 13 moto on the "Stalhratte" and a total of 22 passages...Great voyage.. Google it ...They are also on FBook. I hear the boat the " Independence " is also a good choice for Motorcycles and this crossing.. Who did you get that quote from ? Is it a broker and do they handle the crating, paper work etc... My email is ..Elizamassey333@gmail.com.. Thanks ..Be in touch ..

Hi Paul,
I just got a basic quote from Dakar Motors in BA. Shipping from BA to Cape town for my BMW 650 gs will be about $2250.00 including everything. Its about another $1500 or so for me to fly separately..

Hello Elizadz21,
I appreciate your help and all the information on your website. I saw that you travelled into China with your bike. Would you let me know how could you do that? Did you have to pay some like 10.000 USD to enter China with your bike?
Thanks for reply
