Hello!
Just thought I would introduce myself quickly as I've been lurking for a while. Im Liam, 28 from London.
Ive ridden bikes since I was about 17, first was an XR125, great little bike unfortunately stolen :thumb down: and since then I've had a few 125cc honda scooters, Vespa PX125, first big bike was an Kawasaki Er5 and also had a Yamaha XJ600.

I read Jupiters Travels in my teens and the idea of doing a RTW trip has never left me. So here I am, a real city boy, I've only camped once in my life and hated it, never ridden on anything other than tarmac and now I'm thinking about going around the globe. So i guess it all really begins now.

Welcome to the HU community. Sounds nice and will need a lot of plannin and preparation. You'll find a great deal of advice and experience on this site.
We have some great on- and off-road trainings here in Morocco which might come in handy

Welcome to the Hubb, I too am from London and yes there is a huge amount of information on this site with a lot of great expertise from those who have gone and done it away from their comfy armchairs.

I read a lot on here and attended many Hubb meetings so book yourself on the one coming up soon where you can meet and speak to and have fun with others on the same subject.

I planned very little except transport of the bike and am currently travelling South America and beyond on my own and between you and me its not scary at all. I just keep meeting people.

If you have the spirit to go then just go, no amount of prep will get you there so just take the first step, and its as much fun discovering it for yourself.

Camping is better in a far away place.....

Hi Liam, I was at the Ace Cafe on Sunday, 59 club. 3 hour ride each way. Just to get me in a right frame of mind, on my latest XJ6s. LTR (love to ride) The Yam Divi is great. Did a little trip 10 years ago, India and back on a 94 Divi. Ride what you got is the best excuse to do it. If you hate camping try a hammock. or stay at hostals. Go to South America by boat with your bike and couch surf. Are you going to the HU meeting? If so we can catch up and raise a glass. I am planning my next trip RTW, again. But planning lots of trips in between. LTR.

Good plan.

To get an idea of off road riding (or more precisely non-tarmac riding) there are many lanes around London (by-ways) that you can use. They are not always easy to find, but your local TRF club should be able to let you copy their maps. I am member of the TRF Surrey, and on 4th Tuesday of the month they meet at the clubhouse and bring their master maps. I copied and highlighted the lanes in my maps. South London & Surrey TRF | riding and preserving green lanes see what maps you needs and come to a night club!

There is also a small company doing a day intro at off road riding, somewhere in Surrey. We came across them on the lanes once. Just found their site: Off The Kerb Trail Riding - Green Lane, Adventure Riding in Dorking Surrey - I never rode with them and have nothing to do with those guys, but have a look…. It could be cheaper than, say, the BMW off road riding weekend in Wales– super $$$$$$!

That should give you an idea. Find a buddy to ride with you on those lanes if you have a little enduro bike.

The XR125 is a lovely bike. We rode with 2 XR125s from London all the way to Mongolia and back. Just shows no one needs a giant super expensive bike to travel around. We did the big bikes thing before, not fun. We will ride a couple of 250s for our next adventure this summer.

Go to the HU meeting in June. You will get a lot of info first hand and all the presentations are brilliant.
