Hiring bikes in India - 250 Euros for 18 days ok?
a company gave us a qoute for Enfields (500). They want 250 Euros for 18 days in Chandigarh July. And they want 1000 Euros deposit.
Is that reasonable? Especially the deposit sounds a bit scary. Are prices much cheaper in Delhi?

I hired an Enfield in Goa last month, the going rate seems to be 600 rupees a day but check over what you hire. the first bike I looked at had no front brakes and the bike I hired ended up jamming in 3rd gear due to not having any gearbox oil! And the clutch was slipping, I had to adjust and oil the rear chain and adjust the back brake. It was a pile of junk really. I could have hired a brand new one for 1000 rupees a day (15 euros). You don't need to pre book one, if you ask around when you are there you will get one. Make sure you wear a helmet on their main 'A' roads otherwise its a 500 rupee fine. They try to charge you another 500 rupees if you don't have an international drivers license but technically you don't legally need one. Passengers don't need a helmet. Expect the unexpected, I saw a couple of bike accidents, luckily none serious. Good luck!

Well, best place to look in Delhi is Karol bagh, Lal Singh is the best known bullet dealer and he does rentals and also purchase/buyback schemes, but there are several in this area. There is a big difference between renting in Goa and renting in the north, bikes in Goa seldom go that far, whilst bikes rented in the north tend to do a lot of hard mountain riding, this takes it toll on the bikes, and is reflected in the rental prices. You might be better off buying one, and selling it on when you've finished with it. Eu 1000 should get you something decent. Also don't get hung up on having a 500 cc., unless you are 2 up with a lot of luggage, the 350 cc. is fine if your riding solo.

Am in Cochin Kerala now and for a decent unit engined 350 Enfield I am being quoted r800 per day thats just over £10, been no mention of deposit.
Was out in an auto rickshaw(tuktuk) today and the driver managed to cut up another one scraping the side . I have brought my own helmet with me, but that is all and I intend to do a reasonable mileage, perhaps the train would be safer!!

Could you please explain why ALL rentals in Dehli are cheaters and why Pushkar is definitely the right place to buy from honest guys?
Bad Babba, after reading other posts from you, I wonder if you might be interested in changing your status to "HUBB dealer" or "HUBB Contributing Vendor" as a more convenient/straightforward marketing policy.
I already apologize if I am wrong, but it seems to me the right place for you if you happened to be a friendly and honest Enfield/Pulsar dealer in Pushkar.

I have just missed you by a few days, I am now in Varkala.
Don't be put off by the driving, just take it steady and give way to everything, expect NOBODY to look before pulling out.
At least you can keep up with the traffic on an Enfield, I'm on a bloody bicycle and right at the bottom of the food chain
