Need parts in Teheran
Hello HUBB-ers,
we are currently stuck in Teheran with a stuffed crank shaft bearing and possibly other internal damage (we won't know until we strip the engine). But we'll surely need some parts to be shipped in that are very hard to get in Iran. We don't have a lot of time in the country so I am hoping some of you may have experience or contacts that can help get BMW parts quickly into Iran.
Possibly from BMW in Turkey and have it transported to Teheran?
any help is greatly appreciated.

Merhaba,
I can only give you fax number of bmw. ankara..Inşallah they will reply your message with model, year and if possible part number for the parts you may need.Ask for the price including DHL cargo.probably they will get the cash payment first...trustable company but you may need some time to receive the parts.
I have the experience of transporting 2 f 800 and 1 f 650 from the gate to closest bmw service by train which is in ankara and we were told have to wait min.2 weeks to get the engine parts from germany after the bikes were checked..

thank you Mehmet. For now we think that we can get the parts directly in Teheran or derived to Teheran by the end of the week.
But when we can't get it fixed here my plan B is to get the bike out of iran into Turkey top get the carnet stamped. A lift from the border to BMW Ankara or Istanbul would be extremely helpful. I will keep your suggestion in mind.
Thanks a lot!

thanks Mehmet. We will keep it in mind as a backup plan. I am in contact with a dealer in Belgium to get a part sent from Mattighofen to tehran, but we are not sure yet if that will work within our visa schedule.

we've made it to motocamp in Bulgaria on the crank fixed in Tehran, but an oil change halfway through still showed copper coloured flakes in the oil.
So we are building over a second hand bottom end. Despite my very limited experience with working on engines it is going well.
Bit we could use some advice on getting the main clutch nu of without the special BMW tool and without damaging the clutch basket?

thanks for the offer. while we were manufacturing a tool ourselves, a few hours after my post, a Brit showed up with a shiny clutch tool. So we can get back to dismantling now.

Don't know if it's useful for you now but perhaps for others in future finding your post.
There is a BMW Motorrad dealer/workshop in Dubai, there are daily flights between here and Tehran, worse case scenario you could fly here to collect items and bring it back with you.
