Im planning to pass through Iran in May by my bike going to Turkey and Europe
What is the best rout from Abadan to Turkey ?

i have never been in iran, but ive been planning to travel from kuwait to holland.

so, until now i've got couple of iran road maps ...check them out














im still doing my research, so i will share more info as soon as i get them.

Turkey has 3 international bordergates with Iran and from south to north:
1-Esendere-Hakkari
2-Kapıköy-Van
3-Gürbulak-Doğubeyazıt

So you can make it to urmia iran then;
1-hakkari turkey
2-tebriz-khoy iran to van turkey.
3-makü iran to doğubeyazıt turkey.
discluding Tehran and caspean sea area..safe and approved 2-3 times each month..

And some paperworks for Turkey...
1-No carnet needed.Your vehicle will be stamped on your passport page.
2-If your green ins. doesn't cover Turkey, Turkish road ins. available at all bordergates.
3-Very simple paperwork at gates and you can easily do yourself..Time needed when crowded.

VISA PURPOSES

1-Generally available for all citizens at all gates against a fee or e-visa for passport holders....

2-Citizens of some countries can enter Turkey with an identity card.
Good to be on road while your passport needed for some additional visas.

SOME TIPS..
1-Gas is almost 1,80 Euros per liter.
2-Top historical places are situated in west,mid and south Turkey mostly around meditarrenean and aegean coast line and of course İstanbul..
All adrenaline sports available and always very crowded.
3-Natural and best places for enduro and adventure travellers with pure national colors are south east,east,and north east Turkey and blacksea coast line.
4-We have a lot of syrian refugees situated along syria borderline and of course many check points in the area.Safety nop but just waste of time to stop,chat,have the offered tea and reply same questions several times such as,where a u from,how much is yur bike,whats top speed,can we have photo together,etc..

I am not sure what you mean by 'best' route. If you want the most direct route, look at a map. If you want the fastest, follow the thickest line (i.e. biggest road).

If you mean the most interesting, then I would say there are two potential routes, depending on your preferences.

Firstly, a route I have taken, I would recommend if you like history and people:

From Abadan, pass through Ahvaz and stay in Shush, which is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, a former capital of the Persian Achamaenid Empire, and a pleasant little town. You can visit the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Choqa Zanbil, a 5000 year old ziggurat, and the bridges in Shushtar. Then head north through Ilam to Kermanshah, where there some Sassanid bas-reliefs. From here, take the stunning road through the Howraman Valley to see some timeless Kurdish villages and extremely friendly local people. From Sanandaj, it's then a fairly dull drive up towards Orumiyeh (though you could deviate to Takht-e Suleiman, another WHS) and your border crossing of choice.

Alternatively, if you were more interested in back-roads, mountain scenery and people, you could head east to Yasuj and head north-west along the crestline of the Zagros Mountains, trying to meet as many nomads as possible (Lors, Bakhtiyars, Qashqa'i) and stay off Iran's thronging main roads...

Look at Google Earth for the best route-planning.

Not sure what you want to do but if you have time a detour North into Georgia and then into Turkey would pay dividends. Stay in Iran as long as possible fab people and saturated in history,and no hassles.
