High power battery

Was speaking to my battery guy the other day about the hot grips. The battery and charging isn't up to it. So he recommended the battery below. So far the hot grips Ard managing the 9 mile commute without the warning led flashing , whereas before it would flash after 3miles.
They have machined plates which give greater surface area giving more oomph. Apparently.

Looks like a good upgrade (and not that expensive when I googled it) but your charging system had better be up to it or it’s only going to be a short term success

+1 with backofbeyond.

In the long term the battery has to get energy from some where to power stuff. If the battery does not get enough power to replace what is going out .. the battery will go flat no matter how big and 'powerful' it is.

We are getting 13.8v which should be enough.

I havent had any problems with AGM and hot grips even at -8C, but the charging system arent made for much extra stuff. Just do some extra charging frome time to time and turn off the grips a while before you get home, then you get a boost before charging stops. And remember dont let the grip or headlights be ON when cold start, drains battery quick.

Replacing the headlight with an LED bulb is a quick way to free up plenty of juice . I run a 90w heated jacket and heated visor on my stock 3tb charging system without draining the battery . Even the tailight ,signals and meter bulbs to free up even more watts. I also do as XTrock suggests , turn off/unplug the high demand stuff maybe 1/2mile from destination and let it idle a bit before shutting down. A bigger battery will only add a set amount of distance before it also will drain down , may be all that's needed if you can plug in to a charger every night to start full each morning , but it's asking for trouble .

I would say your battery man is just trying to take your hard earned money. That battery has same specs as the standard YTX9-BS....8Ah 120 CCA . if you want a bigger battery but same physical size you can fit a yuasa YTZ14-S rated at 11.2Ah 230 CCA I have one of these and is awsome....this will give you a lot more power for the grips and starting power in the cold but is not really fixing your problem just giving you a bit more time before your battery goes flat again.

You may have an issue within your charging system or rec/ reg? What sort of hot grips do you have?

I have oxford grips on my 3TB. The 3TB charging system can generally supply about 180W power when cruising when all in good condition.. Your headlight/ tail light/ speedo light will use about 75W combined. Oxford grips on high use almost 60W. TCI/ ignition system uses about 40W. It is on the limit but holds charge V ok when using grips on full. No spare power for anything else while the hot grips are on full!

I bought the 9Ah it fits, also recomend buying LED headlamp, tailight so you have more to the grips.

Your stator has a fixed maximum output.

If it can't provide enough juice for all of your accessories then you could also consider having it re-wound to create more output. There are a few companies that can do it.

A bigger battery won't solve your issue but it will take longer to go flat. But it will also take longer to re-charge.

Like said, consider reducing the load on your charging system in other ways.
