Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

Shipment: From Perth, Australia to Cape Town, South Africa - September, 2013

This is my 3rd international bike shipment and second using Bikesabroad.com.au The process was very easy, I procured a shipping crate at BMW perth (free) packed my bike and bikesabroad.com.au arranged the pick up and transport to airport, Carnet clearance and Dangerous goods declaration (they tried to get it as non dangerous goods, but were not able to out of Perth to Cape Town) that would have saved 700AUS. Air freight is more expensive, but then I had my bike to ride in just 4 days vs month +

Upon pick up in Cape Town I decided to use an importer, although I could have done the paperwork myself. It cost me an extra 1,000 rand ($97USD) to have them set up customs meeting, come out and walk through the process.... I used Christopher that was recommend on HU somewhere. Christopher Every Tel: 021-421-1666 Fax: 021-421-1699 Cell: 082-735-2620 Seaboard Maritime Services

Plan to use them if I ship out of Cape Town. Great experience with both Ivan and Christopher! The smaller you pack the bike the cheaper the air freight is. with BMW crate you just remove the front wheel to reduce the volume and can place the panniers inside.

My bike has a Carnet, so the import was only $150 USd for customs paperwork and inspection.

We shipped two motorbikes by airfreight from Ulaanbaatar to Vancouver. We had contact with the agent by e-mail a few weeks before we arrived in Mongolia and the correspondence was very friendly and replies always quick. At the time we arrived in Ulaanbaatar I called the agent and a few hours later he came to see us to discuss the details of the shipment.

This was the offer we received:

Price per kg for airfreight: USD 6.80

Delivery from guesthouse to airport: USD 50.00

Airport tax: USD 0,06/kg

Customs clearance: USD 35.00

Fee for airwaybill: USD 10.00

The crating was done at Oasis (for EUR 220 per box). The agent picked up the boxes and organized the freight with Korean Air. It took about 4 days from the day the bikes were picked up in UB until they arrived in Vancouver. Picking the bikes up from the customs warehouse in Vancouver was very easy as well. I believe we were lucky and the customs procedure took only a few minutes! No questions about dirt, insurance, etc.

All in all we were very satisfied with this agent. The contact was always professional and quick in response. We can recommend this company.

Motorcycleexpress Ltd

We shipped two motorbikes by airplane from Ulaanbaatar to Vancouver with the agent Motorcycleexpress. The service was very professional (and reliable)! We crated them at the Oasis Guesthouse in Ulaanbaatar and the agent picked them up. The bikes were shipped with Korean Air. The leadtime when they loaded the bikes at the guesthouse until they were dropped off in Vancouver took only 3 days. The costs for the shipment (including all taxes in Mongolia and Canada!) was around USD 4'900.-, the crate itself is not included in the price.

We can highly recommend this agent. Airshipment was the best option for us since we did not want to ride all the way to Vladivostok and take a boat. And in the end the price we paid is not much higher.

Add another AUD900 for the Carnet paperwork. I didn't need it to cross from Chile into Argentina but might come in handy in the next border crossings.

Shipment: From Southampton, United Kingdom to Dubai, United Arab Emirates - September, 2013

Anglo Pacific International PLC

Details can be found online if you are prepared to undergo the Anglo Pacific experience.

Anglo Pacific was used to organise the shipping of a 4WD from the UK to the United Arab Emirates in September 2013.

The quotation was full of promises about "best levels of service", speed and "minimum of fuss". An acceptable approximate arrival date ("an overall transit of approximately 2-3 weeks") was agreed, the shipping fee was paid and the car was delivered by road to Southampton port as instructed.

After that the vehicle was, by Anglo Pacific's own admission, "bumped off vessels" on two occasions due to “over allocation for larger customers".

The vehicle eventually arrived almost 2 months late after further delays that included its ship docking in Abu Dhabi port, then leaving the Persian Gulf to go to Jeddah in the Red Sea before returning to Jebel Ali port, Dubai. Thus, the ship used by Anglo Pacific passed Dubai twice on supposedly more important business before returning to dock there.

The broken promises regarding the car’s arrival caused immense inconvenience and further additional expense. Moreover, when it was finally delivered its rear number plate was missing. This made it impossible to drive on public roads without the risk of being pulled over by the police. Anglo Pacific seemed unmoved by the fact that the car had been legally driven on UK roads with both number plates in place to reach Southampton port. The “sales consultant” with whom I repeatedly communicated would not even reimburse the bare minimum £15 (from the £1,851 paid) for the replacement of the number plate in Dubai (receipts were provided) nor showed any other measure of responsibility or goodwill.

If you want a vehicle delivered within a promised time period without important items going missing from the car avoid Anglo Pacific International.

If you think it might be fun to drive around without a number plate in a foreign country, to organise a replacement plate from your country of origin and to receive no compensation for your additional wasted time or financial outlay then Anglo Pacific International might just be the company for you.
