Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

sorry, I have only the www

Julio Harboe
julio@dydcargo.cl

It was generally very difficult to get any serious and complete offer for airfreight from Chile to NZ or AUS.
Feedback to emails was nearly zero.
Only LAN Chile answered, that they don't cope directly with retail customers. You have to involve a ground handler / airfreight handler.

I contacted various, including Theisa, of whom I know, that they transported bikes before. All declined.
With lots of patience we made it to four offers after some weeks (including going physically to all the freight handlers at the cargo airport).
The by far best service was offered by D&D, which had at the same time the by far best price.

A special case is Jenners. Heard good things of them, if you go from NZ to Chile. But the other way round you have to cope with their Chilean Joint Venture partner JAS Forwarding Transportes.
This company SUCKS! Everybody we coped with was incompent and lazy to the max + the offer was much higher than D&D.

Procedure: Julio did customs + DG-declaration for us + brought us to Theisa, which put the bikes on palettes, after we disconnected the batteries, which where put in a seperate box by a Theisa-guy + we had sworn that the tank was totally empty.

After fixing the bikes on the palettes, they where put in cling film.

Procedure in AKL was super easy: go to Air New Zealand (handling agent for LAN Cargo in AKL): few minutes from the passanger terminal; S37°00.219 E174°47.322
There you'll get a printed procedure + map of all the places you have to go to). Perfect + very easy.
Cost in AKL: 62,56 NZD per shipment (equal for one or two or more bikes).

Costs in Chile:
3,75 USD/kg
0,40 USD/kg fuel (FSC)
Packing (palett/cling film): 120 USD per bike
All following cost are per shipping (same no matter if it is one, two or more motorcycles)
DRG: 170 USD
DRG declaration: 120 USD
Handling: 25 USD
Security: 10 USD
Airport Load: 30 USD

D&D takes only cash: USD or CLP.
Checke local exchange rates! We saved 7% by changing our CLP at a 'gambio' and not using D&D's rate.

Flew out of Singapore air freight and used Glenn Phuah, a fellow biker, who I had met at Riders Corner in Chiang Mai. He had not shipped a bike before, but the service was fabulous and his rate was less than that of Malaysian, which more than covered the expense of the insurance etc.:

Glenn is a great chap and has been nothing but professional and efficient. Helping me with no end of issues in Singapore... including finding the grave of a Great great great uncle of mine who died out in Singapore over a hundred years ago.

Robbie Stevens
imperialfreight@msn.com

Robbie sends containers to NZ on a regular basis, usually carrying classic cars. You get the bike to the storage unit near Long Beach clean and it goes uncrated.
You can leave panniers etc on the bike but advisable to take your tent with you as checked luggage to NZ as MAFF will want to look at it.
The guys in the storage unit open up at 7am but the office staff arrive at 9am. You need to see Hazel and pay up and hand over your Docs.
GPS for the drop off is N33 52.411 W118 13.515 250W Artesia Blvd.
Robbie tells us he has plenty of storage at the Dunedin end so no costs for storage if you need to leave the bike with him for a week or so in NZ. I will update when we collect the bikes in 4 weeks.

_ Carton Wrapping with safety Tools : usd 30/cbm

_ Wooden Case (If Any) : usd 55/cbm

_ Fumigation, if any : usd 10/cbm (min usd 100)

We drove with our motorcycles to the warehouse and packed them there with the provided crates we have ordered, so we had no trucking fees. Also we have been at the customs headquarters in Phnom Phen and saved the 180 USD for customs export formality. You have to choose what kind of packing you like. We chose wooden case and therefore also had the fumigation.

Plan at least 1,5 weeks for everything as Cambodians have another attitude to time abd are very relaxed ;-) The ordered wooden cases, had been delayed and not stable enough, so we had to do some adjustment. Took 1 day. You can purchase screws, straps, etc only at the Russian mrket in Phnom Penh. The quality of pull down or ratched straps are not good and they are expensive. We bought one for 8 USD after negotiating.

You also have to do a kind of application at the customs headquarters, that you want to leave the country with your bikes again. Therefore you have to see Mr. Prak Somet and need copies of your passport and the front and back page of your carnet.

Following is the text we had to write: ==============================================================

Phnom Phen, 23.2.2012 H.E Dr Pen Siman Delegate of Royal Government In charge of the General Department of Customs and Excise Phnom Penh Name name
Passport no:
Nationality: name Passport no: Nationality: Subject Re-Exit of 2 motorcycles according to Carnet de Passage en Douane no.: number of carnet Herby we want to inform you that we entered with our motorcycles on the 6th of February 2012 in Trapeang Kreal from Lao P.D. we request your ecxellency to re-exit our two motorcycles on the 2nd of March via the Dry Port Phnom Penh by using again the Carnet de Passage en Douane. Thank you for you kind assistance. name ===============================================================

You can come back 2-3 days later to pick up the confirmed letter. You also have to get a couple of stamps within the building, but they will tell you where to go. Just keep in mind that they have a lunch break between 11:00 and 14:00. Mr Prak Somet is back 14:30. At the end everything was fine although we were close to heart attacks as we watched them packing the container.

But the crates and motorcycles arrived safely in Japan. Here we had to pay: 33.267,-- YEN (CSF charge,C.H.C, D/O Fee, Co.Load Fee) Insurance for 1 bike and 2 months: 5,830 Yen. In Japan you have to go to JAF first, then to the shipping company pay the harbour fees and get the delivery note, then go to customs and after that pick up your bike. You also should have the insurance for your bike - it's compulsary

You find very detailed description of the procedures on the following homepage: http://www2.gol.com/users/chrisl/japan/entering-japan-with-a-motor.html

Hope this is helpful for you Alexandra & Andre

Shipment: From Orlando, United States to Jakarta, Indonesia - March, 2012

Air Parcel Express (APX)

Virginie

I ended up using Air Parcel Express (APX) to ship (by air) from Orlando, Florida, USA to Jakarta Indonesia. They also do sea cargo.
Their web address is:
International Shipping, International Cargo, Freight Forwarder, Air Cargo, Ocean Containers, Air Parcel Express, Inc
https://www.freight-calculator.com/AirCalculators.asp
Air Cargo ALL CARGO AIRCRAFT Freight Forwarder APX International Shipping

They weren't fabulous, they were't terrible. Just average. They wouldn't be my first choice to do this again but I wouldn't avoid them either. My bike got there about a week late (20 days from pickup to delivery). Price (mind you this is a large bike with a sidecar) was $3700, about the same as their instant quote had estimated.
