Hi! We are two friends from Greece outraged, inspired and anyway by occasion of the economic crisis and the unemployment here in Greece and generally in Europe - World, before 6 months we took the decision to give everything up and get out there on our beloved Vespas and just live our dream. We've sold everything we had (2 old Vespas, 1 old car, 1 motorcycle, many other small things), we kept our 2 everyday Vespas and in some months we'll be on the road!

My wife and I have recently retired so we decided to spend 3 months touring the United States of America. Our plan was to air-freight our BMW 1200GS to Toronto and then try to ride through as many states as possible within the 3 month period, thereby completing a loop of the USA finishing back in Toronto.
The reason we flew to Toronto rather than starting in the US is because we had heard it was much easier to get through customs in Canada than the US and we can confirm it was very straightforward and easy to collect our bike from the Customs in Toronto and also much easier to cross into America via road than airport.
We started a blog to keep family and friends informed of our route but then realised the blog had been forwarded to many people who were regularly following it. Up to now we can see from the Audience section people from Russia, Germany, Australia, Canada as well as the US & UK have been viewing the blog so as I am a regular viewer of the HUBB and enjoy other people's stories, we thought maybe our blog could be of interest to other riders embarking on a first trip to the States.
We have motorcycled in many different countries over the years but always hired BMWs - so this is the first time I have taken my own motorcycle abroad (other than to Europe).

A restless, poorly timed decision that led me to buy a cheap Chinese copy of a small Suzuki motorbike in Santiago, Chile and take it over the Andes in the height of Winter and then a few miles more on the other side

I have just returned from a great 4 week ride, Netherlands to Northcape, Jun/July 2012. It was on a rented Yamaha XT660Z Tenere from RB Motoren in The Netherlands. No incidents, just a fine ride on a fine bike.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the midnight sun, even though I was there for 3 midnights. That's life. I found a lot of good info on roads and places to see from other HU bloggers. Thanks heaps.
Not much reading, but lots of photos. It is written for my family, but I am sure you'll enjoy it anyway. Lou777AUS
