Shipments done by Travellers

The HU Shipping Database!

From THIS page, you can find details of shipments ALREADY MADE by travellers, both air and sea, so you can plan your own shipment.

For each shipment, the details include Shipping Date, Cost, Shipper Contact details and a Description of the experience, often including very detailed and extremely useful information about the requirements for crating or the paperwork involved at the destination location.

If you are aware of any more up-to-date information, or you know of any shipping details for locations which aren't listed below:

Please let us know here for minor details, or
Submit information on a shipment YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE here.

Thanks to all who have contributed this information, keep it coming!

NOTE: This is not our normal view, but Google's API has somehow broken the view with a map and everything nicely laid out. We will fix it as soon as possible, but it's a very big job for us. Any Google API experts feel free to contact us! For now this will have to do, sorry.

Usage: Enter one or more of the fields, as you wish. Blank field means "all". Be sure to use correct country names, e.g. "United Kingdom" not UK or England. Unfortunately "united states" (united states of america doesn't work) gets United Kingdom as well, just work down to the bottom or last page. Not case-sensitive. Results sorted by newest first.

Paid receiving company $50 to use the dock (mandatory - cash). There are no custom fees for a U.S.A. citizen, I do not know if there are fees for a foreigner. Picking up in Orlando is extremely easy. The dock dropped off the pallet next to a trash dumpster. Did use a box cutter and a claw hammer to disassemble the packaging. Customs is the building next door to where the motorcycle was shipped. Easy to walk to even with luggage.

Olaf answers very quickly to emails and everything worked perfectly with him!
No pre-payment necessary. Paid about 5 days before the arrival in Hamburg! He has a partner company in Valparaiso. Worked very efficient as well. After check the papers in Valparaiso a short drive (10 minutes) to the cargo company.
Bike with few fuel and battery disconnected. No box, with complete lugagge!! The yfill a complete container with bikes. Took about 6 weeks to get back. Had also ordered a transport from Hamburg to the border of Switzerland (costs €230).
Highly recommended. Transport from Europe to South America is even cheaper.

Chris Stewart

Toyofuji car carrier operates between Australia (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne) and New Zealand (Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Nelson) every 14 days
The Shipment was arranged through Chris Stewart of Toll Global based in Brisbane Queensland
Cost $820 AU covered sea freight, Australian customs and all port charges at origin and destination (BMW 1200 GS)
I rode the motorcycle to the port at Melbourne and collected it and rode from the port at Christchurch
I arranged the quarantine and customs clearances at Christchurch and temporary NZ registration
Additional costs included
Port escort at Melbourne ($110 AU)
New Zealand customs and quarantine clearances ($100 NZ)
Temporary NZ registration (6 months) and roadworthy certificate ($75 NZ)

Stevedores ride the motorcycle on and off the vessel (must leave keys and no disabling battery and fuel)
Temporary import to NZ (without carnet) requires payment of refundable cash deposit to Customs (15% of value of motorcycle - proof of value required - may be depreciated by up to 75% if 4 years old)
Toll charge does not include marine insurance (I had a quote for $600 and decided not to buy insurance)
Panniers can be loaded but NZ quarantine will want to inspect contents - best not to pack tents and boots
I was warned about theft of luggage so locked panniers and delivered a key to quarantine before the inspection
Motorcycle must be thoroughly cleaned to pass strict NZ quarantine standards
Shipment went as planned and motorcycle arrived without any damage
NZ government officials were very helpful.

The bike has been shipped by Olaf, from intime-ham shipping. It was shipped together with 13 other bikes in a shared container. Olaf ships a couple of these shared containers per year towards valparaiso.
At the port in Hamburg your bike is strapped on a steel pallet, side cases will be strapped on top of the bike to reduce the size of the bike in the container. At the destination, in Valparaiso, he works with a local agent that receives the bike. All port/handling and storage costs were inclusive and pre-paid, and the local agent assists with the customs process (and knows the people working at customs really well, wich really helps to speed up the process.)
It only took me half a day to go to the agent, the customs and the ware house, connect the battery, and drive away!

I'm pretty sure this is the cheapest, and most conveniant way to ship your bike to south america. I can recommend it to anyone!
